Our government recognizes the need for more women to take on leadership roles in our communities. While much progress has been made in this area, we have some distance to go. All of our communities benefit from the full participation of women in civic, political and community life.
Applications for funding under “Setting the Stage for Girls and Young Women to Succeed” are currently being accepted by the Status of Women Canada for programs which engage girls and young women in leadership roles and/or strengthen economic prosperity for girls and young women. I encourage all interested organizations to step forward to make a difference for girls and young women. The deadline for applications is August 10th, 2012.For info please go to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The theme for Women’s History Month 2012 (October of this year) is Strong Girls, Strong Canada: Leaders from the Start. The United Nations has declared October 11th, 2012 the first ever International Day of the Girl, which has a simple message – girls’ rights are human rights: the sooner in life girls know their rights, the greater their chance to exercise them.
Our government is committed to supporting programs that yield concrete results for girls and women in Canada. Promoting leadership roles for women strengthens our nation and our economy while creating a more equitable society.
