Under the stewardship of our Conservative government, nearly 600,000 jobs have been created in Canada since July, 2009.  This includes seven straight quarters of growth in the economic sector.

 Canada’s economy has performed admirably in a time of world economic crisis during our government’s period in power, proving that our low-tax policy is working – stimulating the economy and creating jobs, growth and stability.

 Our government is active in the pursuit of recent immigrants to our country who have failed to comply with immigration law or have committed of acts of criminality.  We are seeking continuing help from the public in identifying and locating individuals with outstanding warrants.  Since the launch of our “Wanted by the CBSA” website, six individuals have been apprehended and three have been expelled from our country.

 By publishing the identities of these wanted individuals, the public can aid our law enforcement officials in the apprehension of those who would abuse our immigration system.  Those with information on any individuals featured on the “Wanted by the CBSA” website should contact 1-888-502-9060.

 The devastating drought in East Africa has caused suffering for more than twelve million people.  Canadian individuals have donated twenty million dollars to help those affected and our government is pleased to make matching donations to those made by citizens.  Our government will continue to match donations made to registered charities until September 16th. 

 We thank you for your contributions, which are so vital at this time.  Canadians will also be helping to coordinate the international response in Africa with security, as food, water and nutrition are distributed.

 I am sorry to note the passing of federal NDP leader Jack Layton on August 22nd.  I had great respect for Mr. Layton, whatever our political differences may have been, and my thoughts and prayers are with his wife Olivia and his family.
